Misc. Notes
John Bonnain was listed in the 1811 census of D'Escousse. He was over the age of 60 and a fisherman. With him was an unmarried woman, perhaps a daughter, age 14 to 60. Gabriel, Michel and Emmanuel Bonnain were also listed in the census, and may be sons of John and Marguerite.

According to Stephen White, Jean-Francois Bonin is the ancestors of all the Bonins in Richmond Co., Cape Breton and his brother Jean-Pierre Bonin is the ancestor of all the Bonins in Chezzetcook,  Nova Scotia.

Jean-Francoise Bonin was born September, 1751, and he married Marguerite Josse in 1770. Because there were no priests in Cape Breton at that time, Jean-Francois and Marguerite were first married before witnesses. When the missionary Charles-Francois Bailly visited the area the following year, Jean-Francoise and Marguerite renewed their vows in his presence, Sept 16, 1771, at Gabarus.
Thus allied to the Josse family by marriage, Jean-Francois moved with them to D'Escousse, about 1776, and settled there permanently.
According to Stephen White, Jean-Francois is the ancestor of all the Bonins in Richmond County, Cape Breton and his brother Jean-Pierre is the ancestor of all the Bonins of Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia.
The 1811 census shows Jean-Francois "Bonnain" as a fisherman at D'Escousse. In a petition of 1815 Jean-Francois states that he had shared a certain peninsula at D'Escousse wiht his wife's brother-in-law, Guillaume Cordeau, for the purpose of curing fish from 1878.
Actually this peninsula was in Lower D'Escousse (now Poirierville), at a place called Le Goulet.

Possible second son, Jean Marie b. ca 1773, d. 1834:
