GRENIER - nickname given to the owner of a 'granary' for storing wheat. The pronunciation similarities between GARNIER and GRENIER have created confusion. Thus, the descendants of the 2 names pass from one to the other, from one generation to another. 1) Charles Garnier was born around 1636 in Tournebu, Caen, Bayeux in Normandy France. His parents: Sieur Guillaume Garnier and Françoise Deschallais. He married Louise Vézina (12 years old) on December 21, 1664 in Château-Richer. Eleven children are born: Five died in infancy. The others: Charlotte (1666-1736), Charles, (1668-1734), Joseph (1671-1703), Louise (1676-1762, Françoise (1688-1722), Angélique (1690-….) In the Garnier children and Vézina, four of them and they married four brothers and sisters of the family Pierre Maheu and Jeanne Drouin Charles died on February 5, 1717 in Beauport His wife, Louise Vézina, on December 10, 1714 in L'Ange-Gardien. 2) François Grenier-Garnier was baptized on February 26, 1638 at Notre-Dame de St-Cosme-de-Vair, in Maine (Sarthe). Son of François Garnier and Étiennette Boulet, he married Jacqueline Freslon on January 9, 1663 at Notre-Dame de Québec. Eight children were born from their union. He settled in Fort St-François-Xavier de Sillery. In 1666, an employee works for him. Around 1670, he moved to Neuville. In 1681, he owned 2 guns, 7 cattle, and 15 acres of cultivated land.
