The Zugspitze and the Eibsee

On a "business" trip in 1995 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, I am sipping champagne before dinner on the patio at the Hotel Eibsee. Just behind me is the Eibsee. The Zugspitze, at 2962 meters, the highest point in Germany, is in the background. It is on the border with Austria.

An aerial tram travels from a terminal which is out of sight in the forest on the left, over the two red and white towers in the middle and then directly up to the summit to the right of center.

It was late in the afternoon and the lake and forest were deep in shadow, but the peaks were well lit by the sun. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it.

Fifteen years ago I weighed over 300 pounds. Too many trips to the buffet line, like on the Alaska Cruise pictured above.

After really focusing on reducing what I ate and a bit of bicycling I am 100 pounds lighter, riding with my daughter-in-law Lisa in a 25 mile charity ride, to the right. You can read about my secret of how I lost it in my BLOG.

I grew up in Bristol, RI, left home in 1966 for the Navy and Vietnam, married in 1968 and since then have lived in California, New Hampshire and Arizona. I’ve also lost a lot of weight and hair (see below) and gotten more gray since this picture was taken.

The nickname MrPiv was given to me while coaching my son’s soccer team.
