POIRIER, Gerald Agustus - 93, died September 23, 2004, at home in D'Escousse. Born in Poirierville, Richmond Co., he was the son of the late Alexander and Alexandrine (Poirier) Poirier. He is survived by his wife, Zena; sons, Wayne (Cecilia), Teddy (Patsy), D'Escousse; sister, Edna Harper, Ottawa, Ont.; brother, John (Dora), Moncton, N.B.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He served in the Merchant Marines in the Second World War, and after the war, he sailed on the Wabana, a coal carrier, for several years. His favourite pastimes were gardening, playing cards, and when resting, he loved to read. He was predeceased by brothers, Joe, Hughie, Walter, Teddy and Alec; sisters, Blanche, Lorraine, Cecile and Katie. Visitation for the late Gerald will be from 12 p.m. to time of funeral mass at 3 p.m. today in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, D'Escousse with Rev. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the compassionate care and direction of I.M.L. Funeral Home, Petit de Grat. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 are asked to meet in the church in D'Escousse at 2:30 p.m. to attend the funeral of their late comrade. Donations may be made to the D'Escousse Cemetery Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
