Louis MARCHAND dit POITIERS, (son of Rene Marchand , born
at Poitiers; corporal in the French Garrison at Port-Royal, Acadia; married
November 24, 1705, at Port-Royal, Marie GODIN dit CHATILLON, daughter of
Laurent Godin and Anne Guerin of Port-Royal (born about1680; buried at
Port-Toulouse after the census of 1734). After Port-Royal was confirmed to
the English by the TREATY OF UTRECHT in 1713, Louis Marchand decided to move
his family to ISLE-ROYALE (Cape Breton Island) which was still under French
rule. The Marchands settled at the small outpost of Port-Toulouse (now St.
Peters, where Louis finished his days as a gardener.
