François and his wife lived at Port Toulouse, D'Escousse, and were both living at Gabarus in 1771 when they served as sponsors at the baptism of several of their grandchildren.

According to Stephen A. White of the Centre D'Études Acadiennes at the Université de Moncton, New Brunswick, all Josse in Nova Scotia descend from François Josse. Of his seven sons, only two left known descendants in Cape Breton. The names of the sons were later supplied by Raymond Paul Joyce.

Tanguay's Genealogical Dictionaries lists François Josse as a carpenter and navigator, married to Marie Langlois. Also listed is a daughter Marguerite who married Jean-François Deguise.

In the 1752 Sieur de la Roque Acadian census, François, aged 56 and Marie, aged 48 were living on the North Side of Isle Madame (the area of D'Escousse, Poulamon, Poirierville, etc.) Also living in that area were Maries' parents (72 year old François Langlois and 65 year old Madeleine Comeau), François Josse Jr. and his wife Marie-Marguerite Tardif, and 5 of Maries' siblings and their families. Living with them were their 7 youngest children.
