Jean Poirier was part of a group from France hired to work on the fishing establishments of Nicolas Denys in Cape Breton (abt 1641). Information on the first four generations of Poiriers is available in the Genealogy of the Poirier Family in Cheticamp, Volume 1 - The André Line, by Jean Doris LeBlanc (1985).
He emigrated, 1641. Point of origin: Acadie, Nova Scotia, Canada. He arrived on board the ship Saint François, although there is no direct evidence that this is the same Jean Poirier. Jean's occupation was soldier in 1648. Source; Jim Meunier

Nous ne disposons d'aucune preuve pour conclure que celui-ci est devenu l'époux de Jeanne Chebrat vers 1647, mais certains généalogistes croient qu'il s'agit de l'ancêtre des Poirier du Nouveau-Brunswick. Quoi qu'il en soit, Michel Poirier, fils de Jean, est né à Port-Royal vers 1650. Celui-ci a épousé, au même endroit, vers 1673 Marie Boudrot, fill e de Michel Boudrot et de Michelle Aucoin. Michel Poirier figurait parmi les premiers colons de Beaubassin, où il est décédé. Son fils Michel, né vers 1674, s'est marié vers 1698 à Madeleine Bourgeois, fille de Germain Bourgeois et de Madeleine Dugas. Michel et Madeleine ont eu treize enfants, dont Ambroise, qui convola vers 1732 avec Marie Gaudet, fille d'Augustin Gaudet et d'Agnès Chiasson.

We do not have any evidence to conclude that it has become the husband of Jeanne Chebrat around 1647, but some genealogists believe that it is the ancestor of Poirier of New Brunswick. Anyway, Michel Poirier, son of John, was born in Port Royal around 1650 This married at the same place, about 1673 Marie Boudrot, Michel Boudrot fill e and Michelle Aucoin. Michel Poirier was among the first settlers of Beaubassin, where he died. His son Michael, born about 1674, married about 1698 to Madeleine Bourgeois, daughter of Germain Bourgeois and Madeleine Dugas. Michael and Madeleine had thirteen children, Ambrose, who convola about 1732 to Marie Gaudet, daughter of Augustin Gaudet and Agnes Chiasson.
