Marie Trotin was born about 1645 in Bournezeau (arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon, diocese of Luçon), Poitou, the daughter of Jean Trotin and Madeleine Blanchard. Her father was a linen weaver at La Chaize-le-Vicomte (arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon), Poitou, then at La Rochelle, Aunis. After losing both her parents, Marie came to New France in 1662.
On 02 December 1662, Marie married
Michel Bouchard at Château-Richer, with Michel's brother Nicolas present. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 21 November by notary Audouart. Michel was born about 1639 in Andilly-lès-Marais (canton of Marans, arrondissement and diocese of La Rochelle), Aunis, the son of Clément Bouchard and Louise Boilardon or Brillard (Jean Brillard & Andrée Gillebert), who were married 29 October 1632. He is the brother of Nicolas Bouchard, who married Fille du Roi Anne Roy (2). Michel enlisted to go to Canada on 22 March 1657 at La Rochelle Michel and Marie had eight children. Son Étienne was baptized 26 December 1663 at Château-Richer, followed by Marie-Madeleine (02 June 1665) and Charles (14 February 1667). The 1666 and 1667 censuses find the family on land known as "Les Petits Ruisseaux" at Chateau-Richer, on the Beaupré coast. In 1667, Marie had to respond to charges of assault and battery against Nicolas Huot dit Saint-Laurent, sergent de Beaupré. She and three other women were found guilty of spanking Hot and had to make a public apology on the steps of the Château-Richer church, in addition to paying an "offering" to the shrine at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.
Son François was baptized at Château-Richer 04 February 1670. Pierre was baptized 11 February 1672 at Beaupré, followed by Marguerite on 16 March 1674. The family then moved to the seigneurie of La Bouteillerie (Rivière-Ouelle), where the next two children were born. However, both Gabriel (born 08 November 1675, baptized 22 January 1676) and a second Pierre (19 June 1678) were baptized at Québec City. In the 1681 census, the family can be found at Rivière-Ouelle. In 1690, Michel and sons Etienne, François and Pierre took part in the defense of Rivière-Ouelle against the English troops under Captain Phipps, on a mission to capture Québec City. While the English were disembarking from their launches at Rivière-Ouelle, the citizens. warned of their arrival and hiding at the edge of the woods. opened fire and drove the enemy back to their ships.
Marie Trotin died at Rivière-Ouelle some time before 27 October 1682, when Michel married Marie-Madeleine de Laporte, with whom he did
not have any children. In 1690, Michel is identified as a cabaret owner in Québec City. Michel Bouchard entered the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec on 28
August 1707. He returned on 10 April 1709 and died at the Hôtel-Dieu on 14 April 1709. Notary Chambalon drew up an inventory of his estate on 05
June 1709.
