Fille-du-Roi per Gagné: Connected to René Boucher

Marie Major was born about 1640 in the parish of Saint-Thomas in Touques (arrondissement and diocese of Lisieux), Normandy, the daughter of Jean Major (receveur of the barony of Heuqueville-en- Vexin and Aubeuf-en-Vexin) and Marguerite Le Pélé. After losing both parents, she left for Canada in 1668 at about age 28, bringing a dowry estimated at 300 lives.

On 11 September 1668, Marie married Antoine Roy dit Desjardins at Québec City. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 06 September by notary Lecomte. A cooper, Antoine was baptized 23 March 1635 in the parish of Saint-Jean in Joigny (archdiocese of Sens), Burgundy, the son of master cooper Olivier Roy and Catherine Boderge or Bauldard.

He arrived in Canada 18 June 1665 as a soldier with the Froment Company of the Carignan Regiment. Antoine and Marie settled at Batiscan, where son Pierre was born about 1669.

Antoine and Marie lived in the home of millet farmer Julien Talua dit Vendamont at Lachine. Talua suspected a certain "familiarity" between his wife (Fille du Roi Anne Godeby) and Antoine Roy dit Desjardins. So after leaving before daybreak on 10 July 1684, he returned about 6 a.m. to find his wife in bed with Antoine. Talua picked up a stick and beat Antoine until he was dead. Surgeon Jean Martinet dit Fonblanche was sent to the crime scene to examine Roy's body and prepare a report. Julien Talua was tried at Montral and sentenced to death for homicide. He appealed the sentence and was granted a new trial date for the next year, having been released from prison and ordered to stay within three leagues of Québec City. When the time came for his re-trial, Talua was nowhere to be found and was never seen again.

Pierre Gauthier dit Saguingoira, husband of Fille du Roi Charlotte Roussel, was named guardian of both Antoine's estate and the possessions of Julien Talua dit Vendamont, which had been confiscated by the court. Marie Major died 08 December 1689 at the Hötel-Dieu de Québec.
