Marguerite Sauviot was baptized 14 July 1641 in the parish of Sainte-Marguerite in La Rochelle, Aunis, the daughter of Jean Sauviot dit Lavergne and Louise Brodeur, who were married about 1640 in La Rochelle. Her godparents were naval captain Nicolas Denys and his future wife Marguerite Lafuyte. Marguerite arrived in New France in 1658 at age 17 with her widowed mother and half-sister, filleà marier Marthe Arnu.
On 16 September 1658 (the same date as 6 other women), Marguerite married
Jacques Mousseau dit Laviolette at Montréal. She could not sign the marriage contract drawn up 15 September by notary Basset, but her husband could. A longsawyer, Jacques was born about 1633 in Azay-le-Rideau (arrondissement of Chinon, archdiocese of Tours). Touraine, the son of Nicolas Mousseau and Jacqueline Janot. He arrived at Montreal on 16 November 1653, having made the crossing on the Saint-Nicolas as part of the Grande Recrue. Enlisting as a land clearer, Jacques was promised 75 lives per year and acknowledged receiving 114 lives advance wages before departure (20 June, notary Belliotte). At Montréal, he received a land grant from Governor Maisonneuve on 20 August 1655 and became a soldier in the 14th squadron of the Sainte-Famille militia in 1663.
Jacques and Marguerite had seven children. Daughter
Françoise was baptized 20 November 1659 at Montréal, followed by Marie-Anne (08 November 1661), Marguerite-Perrine (25 October 1663) and Jacques (13 November 1665). Élisabeth was baptized at Montréal 29 September 1667, followed by Hélène (24 February, buried 21 August 1670) and Jean (born at Repentigny, baptized 18 July 1671, Boucherville). Sadly, Jean died some time before the 1681 census, which finds the family at Repentigny.
Marguerite Sauviot died at Repentigny some time between the 1681 census and 07 October 1687. On 28 May 1692, Jacques enlisted 25-year-old daughter Elisabeth to serve René Fezeret and his wife Marie Cartier for one year (notary Maugue). Jacques Mousseau dir Laviolette died at Repentigny after 25 January 1694, when he was present at the marriage of son Jacques and Marie-Anne Daunay. Simon, Marie Marie Simon is the daughter
