Élisabeth Prévost was born about 1646 in the parish of Saint-Nicolas in Rouen, Normandy, the daughter of master tailor Adrien Prévost and Marie Leblond. After losing her father and watching sister Marguerite leave as a Fille du Roi in 1669, Élisabeth left for Canada in 1671 at about age 25, taking with her goods worth an estimated 300 livres for her dowry.

On 14 November 1671, Élisabeth married Jean-François Foucault at Québec City and was given the King's Gift of 50 livres. She signed the mariage contract drawn up 08 November by notary Becquet, but her husband could not. Jean-François was born about 1632 in Saint-Michel-de-Double, Saint-Michel-de-Rivière or Saint-Michel de Villadeix (arrondissement and diocese of Périgueux), Périgord, the son of Pierre Foucault and Péronne Borda. He was noted at Château-Richer 08 October 1665 and can be found in the 1667 census on the Île d'Orléans. Jean-François and Élisabeth settled at Bellechasse. Son Denis was baptized 12 October 1672 at Québec City, followed by Élisabeth (23 May 1674) and Gabrielle (born about 1677). The family then settled at Trois-Rivières, where Françoise was baptized 02 September 1679, followed by Jean-Baptiste on 10 May 1682. Daughter Élisabeth had died before the 1681 census.

Jean-François Foucault was buried 04 December 1700 at Trois-Rivières. Élisabeth Prévost was buried 04 January 1722 at Trois-Rivières.
