Fille du Roi for David

From Gagné:

Marie Morin was born about 1646 in the parish of Saint-Jean-en-Grève in Paris, the daughter of François Morin and Charlotte Roulant. Widowed by Paul Houdan, she left for Canada in 1665, at about age 19.

On 15 November 1665, Marie married Étienne Dauphin at Beauport recorded at Québec City). Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 29 October by notary Vachon. Étienne was born about 1635 in Bonnes, near Châtellerault (diocese of Poitiers), Poitou, the son of Étienne Dauphin and Julienne Richard. He may have arrived in Canada in 1665 as a soldier with the Carignan Regiment, given the names of the witnesses at his mariage contract. Étienne and Marie settled at Beauport. Son René was baptized at Québec City 17 October 1666, followed by Marie (18 February 1668), Étienne (12 January 1670) and Michel (27 December 1671). Marie was baptized at Beauport 07 October 1673, followed by Marie-Thérèse (09 September 1674), Jean (born about 1678) and Marie-Catherine (10 December, buried 26 December 1682).

In 1688, Marie got into a dispute with Jean de Rainville, whose late father had leased a farm to Étienne. De Rainville beat Marie bad enough that she had to go to Québec City for treatment, staying with Abel Sagot dit Laforge. Preferring to settle the matter out of court, Jean de Rainville agreed in a document drawn up by notary Vachon on 03 June to pay Étienne 135 livres for the land he had already sown, in addition to Maries medical bills.

Étienne Dauphin died 31 August 1693 at the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, after being hospitalized since the 25th. On 10 August 1694, Marie married Pierre Chaignon in Beauport. Neither spouse signed the mariage contract drawn up 18 July by notary Duprac. Pierre was born about 1638 in Beauvoir-sur-Niort (arrondissement of Niort, diocese of Poitiers), Poitou, the son of Michel Chaignon and Madeleine Boursier. He and Marie lived at Beauport, but had no children.

Pierre Chaignon died 19 November 1708 and was buried the same day at Beauport, probably the victim of a mysterious epidemic that struck Canada that year. Marie Morin died 09 February 1729 at the Hôpital Général de Québec and was buried the next day.
