Anne Michel was born about 1648, though her origins in France are unknown. She came to Canada in 1668, at about age 20.
Some time in 1668 or 1669, Anne married Jacques Paviot dit Lapensée at Contrecoeur. Though no marriage contract has been found, it is known that Anne could not sign her name. Jacques” origins in France are unknown. He arrived in Canada in August 1665 as a soldier with the Contrecoeur Company of the Carignan Regiment. Anne and Jacques settled at Contrecoeur, where daughter Marie was born about 1669, followed by Claude (about 1671), Madeleine (about 1673) and Anne, baptized 25 February 1674 at Sorel.
Jacques Paviot dit Lapensée died in early 1674, some time after 25 February. Later that year, Anne married Jean Massault dit Saint-Martin at Contrecoeur. A woodworker, Jean was born about 1648 of unknown origins. He and Anne lived at Contrecoeur and had six children. Marie-Madeleine was baptized 06 May 1675 at Sorel, followed by Philibert (16 January 1677), Jean (24 May 1678) and Barbe (bon about 1680). Sadly, Philibert and Jean died after the 1681 census.
