Fille du Roi for David D8
From Gagné:
Marguerite-Françoise Moreau was born about 1655 in the parish of Saint-Sulpice in the faubourg Saint-Germain section of Paris, the daughter of François Moreau and Françoise Gardien. After her father's death, she left for Canada in 1670, at about age 15.
After staying at the Maison Saint-Gabriel in Montréal, on 30 September 1670 Marguerite-Françoise married Mathieu Faye or Faille dit Lafayette in Montréal. She signed the marriage contract drawn up by Father Gilles Perrot 27 September sous seing privé, but her husband could not. Antoine Gardien, cousin of the bride, was a witness at the contract, as were Filles du Roi Madeleine-Thérèse Salé and Françoise Goubilleau, the latter present “as mother of the bride, having come with her from France.”
Mathieu was born about 1641 in Saint-Jean-d’Aubrigoux, arrondissement of Le Puy, diocese of Clermont), Auvergne, the son of Claude Faye and Marie Sulier. He arrived in Canada 17 August 1665 as a soldier with the La Varenne Company of the Carignan Regiment. On 12 April 1671, Marguerite-Françoise signed her name as a witness to the mariage contract of Françoise Goubilleau, her “surrogate mother.”
Marguerite-Françoise and Mathieu settled at Laprairie, where daughter Anne was baptized 22 September 1672, followed by Marguerite (21 March 1674), Marie (26 March 1676), André (16 July 1678) and Jean (17 September 1680). Sadly, Anne died before the 1681 census. Marie-Angélique was baptized at Laprairie 05 January 1683, followed by Jeanne (22 August 1684). Fourteen-year-old Jean was buried 30 September 1684, followed by the baptisms of Anne (12 September 1686) and François (21 March 1689). Tragedy struck in 1689, as first François (03 September) then Anne (05 September) died. The fact that both died so close together and were buried the day of their deaths suggests that they were victims of an epidemic, possibly smallpox. Élisabeth was baptized 11 July 1695.
Mathieu Faye dit Lafayette was killed by the Iroquois at Laprairie 29 August 1695, along with son André. On 21 November 1696, Marguerite-Françoise married Jean Lefort dit Laprairie in.…Laprairie. Jean was born about 1669 in Saint-Jean d’Angély (diocese of Saintes), Saintonge, the son of Isaac Lefort and Anne Tibaud. He and Marguerite-Françoise continued to live at Laprairie, where son Jean was baptized 20 July 1697, followed by Pierre (10 June 1699) and Paul (born about 1701).
Marguerite-Françoise Moreau died at Laprairie 16 October 1718, “after a long illness” and was buried the next day. I is possible that she was a victim of that year's typhus epidemic. In 1719, Jean married Marguerite Bourgery, with whom he had three children. Jean Lefort dit Laprairie died at Laprairie before 28 July 1727.
