Marguerite Charlot was born about 1632 in the parish of Saint-Jean-en-Grève in Paris, the daughter of Francois Charlot and Barbe Girardeau She came to Canada in 1647, most likely brought over by Maisonneuve on his return from France.

On 13 January 1648, Marguerite married Louis Loisel in Montréal. Though no marriage contract has been found for this couple, it is known that Marguerite could not sign her name, but her husband could. A master locksmith. Louis was born about 1617 in Saint-Germain-la-Blanche-Herbe (arrondissement of Caen, diocese of Bayeux), Normandy, the son of Louis Loisel or Lovsel and Jeanne Le Terrier.

Marguerite and Louis had eight children. Daughter Jeanne was baptized 24 July 1649 at Montral. followed by Francoise (26 February 1652). Joseph (25 November 1654) and Charles (baptized 02 June. buried 28 June 1658). Sadly, Marguerite and Louis lost three of their next four children within a month of their baptisms. Marie-Marthe was bantized. died and was buried 15 August 1659 in Montréal, followed by a second Charles, who was baptized 05 October and buried 07 November 1661. Daughter Barbe was baptized 30 August 1663 and survived to adulthood, but Louis, baptized 14 August 1667 was buried 05 September of the same year. Jeanne is regarded as the first child born at Montral to survive. In November 1653. Marguerite Bourgeovs wrote. "Monsieur de Maisonneuve gave me Jeanne Loysel [sic] to raise. She is the first child of Montreal to survive.* She and Françoise were two of the first students at Marguerite Bourgeoy's stable school in Montréal.
Louis Loisel was buried 04 September 1691 at Montréal. Marguerite Charlot was buried at Pointe-aux-Trembles on 03 October 1706.
