Fille du Roi for David
From Gagné:
Jeanne Petit was born about 1656 in the parish of Sainte-Marguerite in La Rochelle, Aunis, the daughter of Jean Petit and Jeanne Gaudreau. After losing both parents, she left for Canada in 1672, at about age 16.
On 31 October 1672, Jeanne married François Séguin dit Ladéroute at Boucherville. Both spouses signed the marriage contract drawn up 21 September by notary Frérot, as did Pierre Boucher and Pierre De Saint-Ours Qusband of Fille du Roi Marie Mullois), who gave a gift of 50 livres. A weaver, François was baptized 04 July 1644 in Saint-Aubin-en-Bray (arrondissement and diocese of Beauvais), Picardy, the first of four children of clerk Laurent Séguin and Marie Massieu, who were married 14 July 1643 in Cuigy-en-Bray (arrondissement of Beauvais). His godparents were François Boudin and Jehanne Dufour. The name Séguin allegedly comes from “sig win,” which means “victorious in combat"! and François didn’t miss his chance to live up to his name. He enlisted with the Delamongue Company of the Carignan Regiment. Shortly before the regiment’s departure for Canada, Delamongue retired in favor of Captain Saint-Ours, who had been his ensign. So it was with the Saint-Ours Company that François arrived in Canada 12 September 1665 aboard the Saint-Sébastien. After the regiment was disbanded, François took some land in the Saint-Ours seigneurie, then went to Montréal to become part of the garrison under his old captain. After a few years, he returned to his land at Saint-Ours, which he exchanged for a plot at Boucherville on 22 September 1672 (notary Frérot).
Jeanne and François settled at Boucherville, where daughter Françoise was baptized 01 November 1674, followed by Marie-Madeleine dite Marie (16 August 1676), François (03 July 1678) and Jeanne (11 August 1680). Pierre was baptized 25 August 1682 at Pointe-aux-Trembles, followed by Simon on 24 September 1684. Catherine was baptized at Boucherville 20 November 1686, but was buried 17 January 1688. Jean- Baptiste was baptized 12 November 1688 at Boucherville, followed by Geneviève (09 April, buried 17 July 1691), Joseph (11 August, buried 30 August 1692) and Joseph (13 September 1694).
François Séguin dit Ladéroute died 09 May 1704 at the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal and was buried the next day under the name Pierre. Pierre de Saint-Ours left François 50 livres in his will, but since he died after François, this money went to François’ children. After François’ death, Jeanne Petit went to live with her son François at Lachenaie. She died 29 March 1733 and was buried the next day at Longueuil.
