Fille du Roi for David per Gagné:

Bailly, Madeleine D7

Madeleine Bailly was born about 1647 in the parish of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie in Paris, the daughter of Guillaume Bailly and Barbe Seillier. After losing both parents, she came to Canada in 1671 at about age 24, bringing a dowry of goods worth an estimated 200 livres.

On 06 April 1672, notary Becquet drew up a marriage contract between Madeleine and Jean Brière, but it was annulled and on 05 July 1672. Madeleine married Guillaume Vanier dit Lafontaine in Québec City. She could not sign the marriage contract drawn up 07 June 1672 by notary Duquet, but her husband could. Guillaume, a candle maker, was born about 1645 in the parish of Sainte-Catherine in Honfleur (arrondissement and diocese of Lisieux), Normandy, the son of Pierre Vanier and Jacqueline Gaillard. He was confirmed 11 May 1668 at Montréal.

The couple settled at Québec City, where daughter Anne was baptized 06 April 1673, followed by Marie-Madeleine (03 January 1675) and Nicolas (16 July 1677). Sadly, two-and-a-half-year-old Nicolas was buried at Québec City 14 January 1680. The family can be found in the basse ville of Québec City in the 1681 census, which lists Madeleine as a midwife. Son Jean was baptized 21 June 1681, then Marie-Marguerite (29 March 1684) and Pierre-Thomas (08 June 1687).

Guillaume Vanier was buried at Montréal 27 August 1687. He was killed when his own rifle accidentally discharged after he returned from fighting the Iroquois. On 20 February 1692 at Charlesbourg, Madeleine gave birth to an illegitimate daughter named Marie-Jeanne, whose father is unknown. Sadly, the girl was buried 07 March 1695 at Charlesbourg.

On 27 September 1697, Madeleine married Joseph Fernando in Charlesbourg. Joseph, a soldier with the Livilliers Company, was born about 1643, though his origins are unknown. He and Madeleine lived at Charlesbourg, but did not have any children. Joseph Fernando was buried 23 November 1718, possibly a victim of that year’s malignant fever epidemic. Madeleine Bailly died 26 March 1734 at Saint-Laurent.

Listed as a Fille du Roi in David’s ancestry.
