Marie-Anne Métru was born about 1656 in the parish of Saint-Médéric in Paris, the daughter of Claude Métru and Jeanne Crissot. Her father was an agent of the archbishop of Paris. After his death, Marie-Anne left for Canada in 1671 at about age 15, taking with her goods worth an estimated 400 Livres for her dowry.

On 26 November 1671, Marie-Anne married Jacques Samson in Québec City and was given the King's Gift of 100 livres. She signed the mariage contract drawn up 13 November by notary Becquet, but her husband could not. Jacques was born about 1647 in Saint-Gatien-des-Bois arrondissement and diocese of Lisieux), Normandy, the son of Toussaint Samson or Sanson and Catherine Chevalier. He can be found in the 1666 census as the indentured servant of Gervais Bisson at Sillery. Jacques and Marie-Anne settled at Lauzon and had 17 children.

Son Jean was baptized 04 October 1672 at Québec City, followed by Marie-Suzanne (18 January 1674), Ignace (16 March 1676) and André (17 March, buried 28 March 1678). Charles-Louis was baptized at Québec City 27 February 1679, followed by Jeanne on 11 October 1681 at L'Islet. Marie-Françoise was baptized at Lauzon 29 December 1682, followed by Marguerite (bo about 1684), Geneviève (20 November 1685), Charles-François (19 April 1687), Étienne (about 1688) and Jacques-Charles (22 September 1690). Sadly, Jean was buried 06 May 1691 at Lauzon. Joseph was baptized 21 January 1692 and buried five days later. Geneviève was baptized 12 February 1693, followed by Jean-Baptiste (08 March 1695, another Joseph (08 May 1697) and Louis (28 October 1698). Sadly, Geneviève was buried 03 May 1699 at Québec City.

Jacques Samson died 03 May 169 and was buried the next day at Lauzon. On 24 November 1710, Marie-Anne married Claude Philippeau in Québec City. Both spouses signed the mariage contract drawn up the day before the marriage by notary Dubreuil. A merchant-bourgeois and master tailor, Claude was born about 1638, of unknown origin. He was previously married to Jeanne Énard (1661, France) and Charlotte de Lacombe (1694). Marie-Anne and Claude settled at Québec City, but had no children.

Claude Philippeau died and was buried 15 July 1713 at Québec City. Marie-Anne Métru died 26 March 1731 at Lauzon.
