Obituary of Zena Marie Poirier
POIRIER, Zena Marie, 98 -of Arichat

We regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Zena Poirier.
Zena was born in Poirierville,NS on November 21, 1922 to Amedee and Sabine Rose Poirier.
Zena had a love of family, a good card game and a house full of company. She began her working life in Halifax at the Nova Scotian hotel, before moving home to marry Gerald.
Saturday nights were spent playing cards with family and friends, and hosting her granddaughters for sleepovers. They all, including Zena would wake to a full breakfast prepared by Gerald, he spoiled every one of them, Zena included, always.
At 98 years, it was her time, we say cheers to a grandmere who never said no. Yes to wearing her make up and jewelry, her fancy dresses from the trunk, yes to potato chips, even an extra bag of Ketchup ones. Yes to watching Another World, redecorating your room, yes to decorating the tree at Christmas, using the polaroid camera to shoot the Barbie Weddings, yes to letting your friends call her Grandmere too. She always said yes to the best backrubs until you fell asleep. She passed on her love of receiving gifts, snooping to try and find out what was in them, and denying she had. We were lucky to have you as long as we did.
Zena was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and leaves to mourn her sons Wayne (Cecilia) Poirierville, Teddy (Patsy) D’Escousse; Grandchildren Melanie (Chuck) Halifax, Michelle (Michael) Rocky Bay, Carli (Andrew) Halifax and her Great Grand Daughter Olivia (Arron) Rocky Bay. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald; son Gary; sister Ruth; brother Valma, and three siblings in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Arichat on Wednesday, February 10th at 2pm with Rev. John Baptist DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, D’Escousse. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Hyacinth Cemetery Fund, D’Escousse, Pay It Forward Angel Fund or to St. Anne’s Centre, Arichat.
We are certain there was a rousing reunion with the “gang” as she affectionately called them at her arrival . The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St Ann’s center for their love and compassion for mom during her stay with them. You were more than caring, you treated her like family. To her special care giver who for years doted on mom and took her where ever she needed to go, Daphne Campbell, we thank you very much, you were very special to her.
We love you mom, until we meet again <3
