Fille à Marier per Gagné for Lovina L8
Nicole Duchesne was born about 1637 in Villevaudé (arrondissement and diocese of Meaux), ile-de-France, the daughter of François Duchesne and Marie Rolet or Nolet. She arrived in Canada in 1657.
On 03 September 1657, Nicole married Jacques de Laporte dit Saint-Georges in Montral. She could not sign the marriage contract drawn up 23 August by notary Saint-Père, but her husband could. Jacques was baptized by Father François Hubin on 05 March 1627 in Nocé (arrondissement of Mortagne), Perche, the first of seven children of baker/innkeeper Jacques de Laporte and Marie Hamelin, who were married 07 June 1626 in Nocé. His godparents were Toussaint Espinette and Catherine Hamelin. Jacques was in Canada as early as 23 June 1653, when he signed a procuration. He was granted land in Montral two years later, on 31 August 1655. Marriage did not seem to settle Jacques, at least not right away. On 29 November 1657 (two months after the marriage), surgeon Étienne Bouchard was granted money for treating, lodging and feeding (for twelve days) armorer and soldier Jean Valliquet, who had been beaten by Jacques, his neighbor. On 06 October 1659, Jacques signed the marriage contract of Louis Guertin and fille à marier Élisabeth Camus.
Nicole and Jacques had 11 children. Paul was baptized 15 April 1659 at Montréal, followed by Antoine (13 November 1660), Georges (23 April 1662), Catherine (12 October 1663) and Jacques (26 October 1665). In the 1666 and 1667 censuses, the family can be found at Montreal, though they may have moved shortly after that time. No baptism information is available for the next two children: Louis, who was born about 1667 and Angélique, who was born about 1671. The next child, Jean, was born at Sorel on 06 February 1674. Suzanne was baptized at Pointe-aux-Trembles on 28 February 1676, but Pierre was baptized at Sorel on 24 May 1678. Sadly, son Jean died before the 1681 census, which finds the family at Boucherville. Daughter Jeanne was baptized at Boucherville on 08 May 1682, but was buried there on 01 December 1683. Fourteen-year-old Angélique was buried at Contrecoeur on 11 August 1684.
Jacques de Laporte dit Saint-Georges died at Contrecoeur some time before 11 September 1702. Nicole Duchesne died at Contrecoeur after 27 July 1703, when she attended the wedding of son Pierre.
