Marguerite Paquet was born about 1646 in the parish of Saint-Paul in Poitiers, Poitou, the second of three children of master woolen weaver Émery Paquet and Vincente Beaumont (or Rat), who were married about 1638 in Poitiers. Marguerites mother died and was buried in the parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Poitiers 20 November 1658. On 29 July 1659, Poitiers notary Berthonneau drew up a mariage contract between Marguerite’s father and Renée Guillocheau, widow of local merchant Jacques Forget, who had no children of her own. In the spring of 1667, Marguerite left for Canada at about age 21, together with her father and stepmother, brothers René and Maurice, Maurice’s wife Françoise Forget and their daughter Jeanne.
Émery and Maurice Paquet took land grants in the Bourg-Royal section of Charlesbourg. On 26 November 1670, Marguerite married François Biville dit Le Picard in Québec City and was given the King's Gift of 50 livres to add to the estimated 400 livres worth of goods that she brought with her from France. She could not sign the mariage contract drawn up 23 November by notary Becquet, but her husband could, as did Intendant Talon. A master woodworker, François was born about 1635 in the parish of Saint-Nicolas in Boulogne, Picardy, the son of François Biville and Jeanne Magnon. He arrived in Canada 17 August 1665 as a soldier with the Grandfontaine Company of the Carignan Regiment and can be found in the 1666 census as a woodworker in the basse ville of Québec City. The next year's census lists him as a servant of the Beaupré seigneurie farm. François and Marguerite settled at Québec City, where son François-Joseph was baptized 10 March 1672, followed by Catherine on 15 March 1674.
François Biville dit Picard died 10 July 1675 and was buried the same day at Québec City. Son Jean was born posthumously and baptized at Québec City 30 August 1675. On 20 January 1676, Marguerite married Bernard Gonthier at Québec City. Bernard signed the marriage contract drawn up 18 January by notary Duquet. Like her first husband, Bernard was a woodworker. He was born about 1643 in Saint-Séverin in Paris, the son of Jean Gonthier and Marie Lay. He was confirmed 23 March 1664 at Québec City and can be found in the 1666 census as a cobbler at Beaupré. Marguerite and Bernard first settled at Québec City, where son Bernard was baptized 01 October 1676, followed by Louis on 27 February 1679. The family then moved to Beaumont. Jean-Baptiste was baptized at Lauzon 26 December 1680. Sadly, Son François-Joseph from her first marriage died some time after the 1681 census. Denis was baptized at Lauzon 10 November 1682, followed by Marguerite (born about 1685) and Marie-Hélène (22 April 1687).
Marguerite Paquet died at Beaumont between Marie-Hélène’s baptism and 31 July 1698, when notary Métru drew up an inventory of her estate. On 04 November 1698, Bernard married Marie-Françoise Forgues, who gave him two children. Bernard Gonthier was buried 13 January 1716 at Beaumont.
