For the Gauls, 'becco' means 'a peak, a rock', a nickname given to someone who lives in such a place. For the Bretons, 'beak' means 'pigeon', a nickname given to a naive individual. Mathurin Dubé was born around 1631 in La Chapelle-Thémer, in Poitou (Vendée), France. Son of Jean Dubé and Renée Suzanne. He married Marie Campion, daughter of Pierre Campion and Marguerite Hénault, on September 3, 1670 in Sainte-Famille on Île d'Orléans. Eight children were born from their union. He arrived in New France around 1663. He settled in 1667 on land on the Île d'Orléans. In 1681, he owns 1 horned beast and 3 arpents of cultivated land. In 1689, he sold his land for 80 pounds.
