Fille a Marier for David per Gagné D7:

Jeanne Rousselier was born about 1636 in Moëze (arrondissement of Rochefort, diocese of Saintes), Saintonge, the daughter of Louis Rousselier and Isabelle Paris. She arrived in New France in 1654. Jeanne is the cousin of Fille du Roi Marie Faucon.

On 14 October 1654, Jeanne married Pierre Godin dit Châtillon in Montréal in a ceremony celebrated by Father Pierre Pijart, SJ. She could not sign the marriage contract drawn up 27 September by notary Lambert Closse, but her husband could. A master carpenter, Pierre was born about 1633, the son of Claude Godin and Marie Bardin. He is either from Savolles (arrondissement of Dijon, diocese of Langres), Burgundy or Châtillon-sur-Seine (arrondissement of Montbard), Burgundy. He obviously earned his nickname from the second locality, where he worked as a journeyman carpenter before his departure. Pierre enlisted to go to Canada on 23 May 1653 in the study of notary Lafousse at La Flèche, Anjou, for the salary of 100 lives per year. On 20 June 1653, he acknowledged receiving 127 livres advance wages before departure (notary Belliotte). Pierre arrived in Canada as a member of the Grande Recrue on 22 September 1653 aboard the Saint-Nicolas and was given a land grant by Governor Maisonneuve on 02 February 1654. He became a soldier with the 19th squadron of Montréal’s Sainte-Famille militia in 1663.

Pierre and Jeanne had nine children. Son Laurent was baptized 10 August 1655 at Montréal with Governor Maisonneuve as his godfather, followed by Marie (19 April 1657) and Catherine (11 May 1659). Gabriel was baptized at Montréal 01 July 1661, followed by Madeleine (18 January 1664) and Marie-Madeleine (05 February 1665). Sadly, Madeleine died before and Marie-Madeleine died after the 1666 census, which, like the 1667 census finds the family in the seigneurie of Notre-Dame-des-Anges or Charlesbourg. Son Pierre was baptized 29 March 1667 at Québec, but the family seems to have returned to Montréal shortly after, for children Jean (18 October 1669) and Anne (10 January 1672) were baptized there.

In 1672, Pierre Godin and his son Laurent were tried for beating neighbor Pierre Boutonne dit La Ramée after Boutaux allegedly slapped Pierre's daughter Catherine, claiming that she had stolen bread from him.
Jeanne also allegedly went to Boutonne's home with a sword, which she passed though the stones in his wall while calling for his death. Despite this run-in with the law, Pierre Godin was entrusted with the project of building a chapel at Lachine in 1675, at which time the family was living near the rapids. It is not known how this case turned out, but on 30 August 1672, Boutonne agreed to pay the costs of pursuing the trial.
Jeanne and her family immigrated to Port-Royal, Acadia (Nova Scotia) some time between 07 June 1676 and 11 June 1677. It seems that Pierre's experience as a carpenter were required for projects at Port-Royal.
On 28 June 1685, Pierre sued Jean Campagnard for witcheraft, claiming that Campagnard cast a spell on him to make Pierre forget threats that he made. The case was not a success for Pierre.

Pierre Godin dit Châtillon died at the Rivière Saint-Jean in Acadia some time before the 1686 census of Acadia, which finds Jeanne at Port-Royal with children Gabriel, Pierre and Anne. Gabriel and Pierre later returned to Québec to marry (Gabriel 1690, Pierre 1689). The date of Jeanne Rousselier's death is not known.
