Les Devancières (les filles et les femmes à marier) : The Precursors or the Filles à Marier (Girls to be Married):

Per Gagné, Fille à Marier, for David D7, D8 and Lovina L8:

Marguerite-Madeleine Morisseau was born about 1642 in the parish of Saint-Pierre in Roye (arrondissement of Montdidier, diocese of Amiens), Picardy, the daughter of Julien Morisseau and Anne Brelancour.

On 26 September 1661, Marguerite-Madeleine married François Pelletier dit Antaya at Sillery, though the marriage is recorded in the registers of Notre-Dame de Quebec. Despite the fact that no marriage contract has been found for this couple, it is known that Marguerite-Madeleine could not sign her name, but her husband could.

François was born about 1635 in the parish of Saint-Pierre in Gallardon (arrondissement and diocese of Chartres), in the Beauce region of Orléanais, the son of Nicolas Pelletier or Peltier and Jeanne de Vouzy or Voisy, who were married about 1632 in Saint-Pierre de Gallardon. He came to Canada with his parents and older brother Jean about 1637 and from 1637 to 1640 his father was a carpenter for the habitation of Québec City.

François was previously married to Dorothée "Amerindienne," who is also identified as "Marie" from the Montagnais tribe. The marriage, which took place in April 1660 at Tadoussac, apparently took place without the publication of banns and without consulting anyone, which caused quite a commotion. François' native wife was buried 13 April 1661 at Québec City.

Marguerite-Madeleine and François had ten children. Daughter Marie-Angélique was baptized 14 October 1662 at Sillery, followed by François-Xavier (02 December 1663), Joseph (22 March 1665) and Marguerite die Marguerite-Agnès (30 August 1666). Geneviève was baptized at Sillery 16 March 1668, followed by Catherine (born about 1672) and Michel (about 1674). On 22 October 1675, François Pelletier bought the seigneurie of Dorvilliers (or Antaya or Comporté) from Philippe Gauthier de Comporté. Son Jean-Baptiste dit Pierre was baptized 20 July 1676 at Sorel, followed by Élisabeth (18 September 1677) and Louise (22 September 1678). Sadly, Elisabeth died some time before the 1681 census, which finds the family at Dautray. In 1688, Marguerite-Madeleine is identified as an engageuse Ouest, a recruiter of fur traders.

François Pelletier dit Antaya died in the seigneurie of Dautray some time between 14 May 1690 and 09 July 1697. Marguerite-Madeleine Morisseau died 15 December 1707 at the Hötel-Dieu de Québec.
