Joseph Pevin, employed by the Waldron-Brownell Co, while digging a ditch on Franklin street Saturday struck his foot with a pick, nearly severing the middle toe. He was taken to the office of Dr. Neylan where the toe was amputated.

Injured by a Hook
The barge J. Leonard arrived here Friday with a cargo of 1500 bags of whiting for the National India Rubber Co., which is being discharged at the town wharf. While assisting in the unloading the cargo Saturday, a young man named Joseph Pevin suffered a severe injury. He was fastening bags of whiting to a hook so that they might be raised from teh hold of the vessel by a horse derrick. As one of the bass was being pulled up, the young man’s thumb was caughgt by the hook and he was raised some distance before the accident was discovered. When let down from his painful position it was found that the hook had torn off the flesh on the back of the thumb nearly the whole length and too with the flesh the nail leaving the end of the bone bare. He went to the office of Dr D. J. Neyland who drew the flesh from the sides together and bound the thumb up.

Joseph Pevin, employed by the Waldron-Brownell Co., was injured Friday by a heavy piece of iron pipe, which fell on his left foot. He was attended by Dr. W. F. Duffy. He is able to get around with the aid of a cane.

1919 Town of Bristol received a bequeath of $250,000 from Dr. Ramon Guiteras of NY for the purpose of constructing a school house in memory of his mother to be known as the Elizabeth Wardwell Guiteras School. By 1925 the site on Washington street had been chosen and the property at 11 Washington street, owned by Joseph Pivin, would have to be bought.
1920 Census 2nd of January shows residence as 11 Washington St. and all children.

Construction contracts for Guiteras school were awarded in October, 1925 at a cost of $221,000 exclusive of plumbing and wiring.
Property at 11 Washington St sold to town for $10,000 for Guiteras School site in 1927.

Pevin Property Purchased
An important real estate transfer was entered for the reocrd at the Town Clerk’s office yesterday [April 14], when Joseph Pevin sold to the town of Bristol his property, consisting of a cottage house, garage and land on the north side of Washington street, on the site of Guiteras Memorial school. It is understood that the price paid was $10,000, the price set by Mr. Pevin for his property. The junior high school is now located on approximately 11 acres of land on the north side of Washington Street.

Obituary in the Bristol Phoenix, March 23, 1948:
Joseph Pivin, 725 Hope Street | died last evening at his home following a long illness He was in his 71st year
Mr Pivin was born in Canada, May 28, 1877, a son of the late Joseph and Olivine (Ferron) Pivin For 35 years he was employed hy the Waldron Company and was its foreman during a large part of that period Later he worked fo the Collins & Aikman Corporation in this town as elevator operator, retiring three years ago because of failing health. Mr Pivin was a member of Bristol Aerie, FOE. He is survived by his widow Mrs Mary Pivin, by a daughter, Mrs Archie L. Danielson: three sons, Albert, of Warren; Oscar and Joseph, Jr, both of this town, and by three sisters, Miss Mary P Pivin and Mrs Rose Neiderer, of Montreal, and Mrs Victoria Mailhot of Drummondville, Canada There are also several grandchildren, nieces and nephews who survive.
The funeral will be held from his late home tomorrow morning lat 8:15 o'clock followed by a high Mass of requiem at 9 o'clock at St Mary's Church. Burial will be in St John's Cemetery in Warren.
