Like · Reply · 1 · April 8 at 4:06amDave Pivin I recognize this place! It is Bristol, RI. That is my high school in the background. Colt Memorial, building, all in marble. The photo was taken looking South on Bradford Street, East of the main street, Hope Street. I wonder who these people are. The trees are much larger now and obscure much of the building, but here is the Google Street View:https://www.google.com/.../data=!3m4!1e1!
Louisdale Historical Group that's crazy!
Like · Reply · April 8 at 10:20amDave Pivin Another surprise for me from your photo postings. Last one was of the C. Arthur Jeffrey family, my mother's half-brother whom we were totally unaware of for her lifetime spent mostly in Bristol. Thanks for posting.
Like · Reply · 1 · April 8 at 11:36amDave Pivin I posted this in the group "You are a true Bristolian if you remember...https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=211005945614913... and got a response from Fred Staudinger that he thinks his mother, Bertha Marchand is one of the girls in the back seat. Perhaps someone knows which Marchand family that could be?YOU ARE A TRUE BRISTOLIAN IF YOU REMEMBER...Dave Pivin This would explain why a car from Nova Scotia would end up in Bristol.
Like · Reply · April 8 at 3:37pmDave Pivin Bertha Marchand is the woman on the right in the back seat according to her son,Fred Staudinger. She is the sister of Lena Marchand who recently passed away in Bristol. Bertha's parents were William Felix "Wilfred" Marchand and Anne Jeanne Boudreau, married in Arichat, 25 Jul, 1910. They brought their family to NH in 1920 and by 1926 they were in RI.

Like · Reply · 1 · April 8 at 4:53pmLouisdale Historical Group Edna is not my grandmother. Wilfred's sister Emilieann was. If you go to the album on LHS and look for the album of Felix and Emilieann Samson, there are lots of photos there. I have a few on my own Fb site.
Like · 2 · April 8 at 11:27pmLouisdale Historical Group We called him Uncle Wilfie and he had a brother Paul also living in Rhode Island who was killed in the First World War.
Like · Reply · April 8 at 4:56pmDave Pivin Joan, I recently posted Lena (Marchand) Cavallaro's obit on the Ile Madame list and got the connection back to Louis Telesphore Marchand. This must have been quite a trip to Bristol.
Like · Reply · 1 · April 8 at 4:56pmLouisdale Historical Group Uncle Wilfie visited my grandmother every few years. They were very close. Their parents would have been Marie Louise and Desire Marchand. They left Cape Breton for work in the US at a young age.
Like · Reply · April 8 at 4:59pmDave Pivin They worked in the mills in Warren, RI like many of the NS immigrants. Some worked as fisherman, but I would guess the mills paid better. My grandfather, Peter Jeffrey worked there in 1902 and died in 1906. My grandmother never returned to NS, but her half-brother, Wilfred Kavanagh, did many times.
Like · Reply · 1 · April 8 at 5:05pmLouisdale Historical Group That would mean I am a direct relative of Fred. Bertha and my dad would be first cousins making Fred and I second cousins.
Like · Reply · 3 · April 8 at 5:05pmLouisdale Historical Group I'm still blown away that Dave recognized that building behind that car! (Mich)

Like · Reply · 1 · April 10 at 2:38pmDave Pivin The car appears to be a 1946 Pontiac convertible, although it did not change much in succeeding years. Google search led me to photos that compare quite well to this.
Like · Reply · 1 · April 10 at 4:50pmLouisdale Historical Group Dave, your assistance and perseverance in connecting roots is inspiring...
Like · Reply · 1 · April 10 at 5:29pmDave Pivin So happy to help. Hoping that one of these days Peter Jeffrey, my grandfather will show up in an old photo. He was the father of C. Arthur Jeffrey whose photo appeared on this site. He was son of Jean Jeffrey and Adele Josse.

The lady to Lucille's left looks familiar also and look at the front seat passenger!! Thanks again Dave!
