Bonaventure Oscar Poirier, 83, Halifax, formerly of D'Escousse, Cape Breton,
died Monday in Halifax. Born in Poirierville, he was a son of the late
Edward and Georgina (Gagnon) Poirier. He served in the merchant marine
during the Second World War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion,
Branch No. 150, Arichat. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wallace
Fougere, Halifax; Connie (Mrs. Venard Fougere), Poulamon; a son Maurice,
Halifax; three sisters, Lena (Mrs. Raymond Dwyer) and Mrs. Margaret Mallett,
and Mrs. Mary Burke, all of Lynn, Mass.; two brothers, Hubert, Lynn, Mass.;
Benny, Cape Cod; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Leonie Fougere, a daughter Tina,
two sons, Maurice and Raymond; three sisters, Blanche, Florence, Artemise;
seven brothers, Francis, Charlie, Eddy, Lawrence, Leo, Wallace, and Maurice,
and a grandson, Maurice. The body is in St. Hyacinthe Church, D'Escousse,
where funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish
cemetery.
