I do not know if this John is the same as the John that emigrated toStark Co Ohio from Franklin County in 1806. It is possible. His father,George, died in 1805 and John Jr Swigart's bio says that he came to StarkCo, Ohio with his father in 1806. I suspect that our John is either theson of George or of Johannes Michael, or perhaps Johannes Valentine.

"JOHN FOUTZ, Farmer, P.O. Chambersburg, was born in St. Thomas twp.,Franklin Co., Penn., February 19, 1836, and is the son of Jacob and Mary(SWIGERT) FOUTZ, natives of Franklin County, and of German descent. Hisfather who was a farmer by occupation, and which he followed in St.Thomas Twp., died in 1848. Our subject was brought up on a farm, and wasfourteen years of age when he began life for himself, and worked out bythe month until he was married. He learned the carpenter's trade, whichhe followed for about five years; then bought a farm in St. Thomas twp.and lived there about five years; then sold out and rented one year. In1868 he bought the place where he now resides, consisting of 70 acres andhere he has since lived. He was drafted in Co. C., 112th PA artillery in1862 and served nine months. He was married in 1854 to Leah, daughter ofJacob and Susanna (MILLER) ETTER, natives of this county. Mr. &Mrs.Foutz are the parents of seven children: Jacob, Susanna, Mary, John,Ellen, Harry, and Charlie. Mrs. Foutz is a member of the United BrethrenChurch. In politics, Mr. Foutz is a democrat."

HENRY FOUTZ, farmer, P.O. St. Thomas, was born in St. Thomas Twp.,Franklin Co., March 26, 1829, and is the son of Jacob and Mary (SWIGERT)FOUTZ, natives of PA. His grandfather, Michael SWIGERT came fromLancaster County to this county when quite young, settled in St. Thomastwp., bought a farm of about 300 acres of land and afterward divided itand gave his son CHRISTLEY a part. It is supposed the grandfather camefrom "the old country" and it is said that there are now $5,000,000awaiting the SWIGERT heirs, but it cannot be traced whence thegrandfather came. He lived on the farm where he first settled until hisdeath, and followed agricultural pursuits all his life; was one of themost successful farmers in Franklin County, and had accumulated a goodfortune. Our subject's father, JACOB FOUTZ, was taken to Ohio by hisstepfather and there lived until he was 16 years old when he ran away andcame back to Franklin County, and for a few years worked for CHRISTLEYSWIGERT. He worked the day until he was married, and then rented fromthe Wilsons, the farm on which John Croft now lives. He also bought thefarm of 236 acres, where Mr. Detwiler now lives, and built the brickhouse which is still on the premises. He died in January, 1850, on thefiftieth anniversary of his birth. Henry FOUTZ was reared on the farmand remained with his father until his death; then hired out 2 years, andafter marriage rented land in different places for about 16 years. IN1864 he bought the farm where he now lives, consisting of 96 acres, andhas made a great many
improvements. Dec. 13, 1853 he married SARAH WAGONER, who bore him sixchildren, three of whom are living. EMMA C., married JOHN HIGH; LauraM.;
and LYDIA I., married to JACOB HOLMAN. Mr. & Mrs. FOUTZ are members ofthe Lutheran Church."

I can fill in your blank at O441 John SWEIGERT m. Rachel E. BOWERS,October 5th 1868, Chamberburg PA. She was from Virginia? Mention made onunnamed paper, no official confirmation.

Rachel Elizabeth BOWERS SWEIGERT died May 15, 1902. Her brother was O.C.BOWERS whose son was Robert HOOD BOWERS. Some kind of link from here toHood College, Frederick, MD.

John SWEIGERT d. Dec. 27, 1922, Chambersburg, Franklin Co. PA. He was myGreat Great Grandfather and I have his Volunteer Enlistment papers whenhe signed on as a substitute for a Gideon Sweigert, his father. Cannotfind Eliza's maiden name (Gideon's wife).

Gideon SWEIGERT & Eliza appeared to have the following children: John(O441), Christian, Ann, Sarah, Samuel, Mary, William, Charles, Rush,Scharlotta and Albertus. Uncertain if they are all theirs.
