John Over was taxed in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. from 1763 to 1780. From Lancaster Co., Pa. he moved to Franklin Co., Pa., where he purchased 272 acres in Peters Twp. Samuel Smith of Peters Twp., Franklin Co., Pa. deeded 272 acres of land in Peters Twp. to John Owver of Lancaster Co., Pa. on May 30, 1785 for 980 pounds. (Deed Book 1, p. 420. Petition of Peter Witter in right of his wife, Catharine Over, states that John Over, late of Peters Twp., Franklin Co., Pa. died intestate was owner of a tract of land in Peters Twp. He left a widow, Cristina Over and eight children: Elizabeth Over married Michael Swigart; Catharine M. Over married Peter Witter (petitioner); Freney Over; Jacob Over (eldest son); Henry Over; Barbara Over; Christian Over. Jacob Over received his father's 370 acre farm in Peters Twp., Franklin Co., Pa. which he was to pay 151 pounds, 2 shillings, and 2 pence to John and Elizabeth Over Flickinger.

Henry Hanshee was appointed guardian of John Over and his widow, Cristina Over's minor children: Christley Over; Barbara Over. ("Franklin County Marriages and Obituaries". Kittochtinny Historical Society Archives, Volume 1, Docket A, p. 13).

On May 27, 1793 Judge James Maxwell and Judge George Matthew appointed James Knox of Peters Twp., Franklin Twp., Pa. guardian of the deceased John Over's minor children: Henry Over; Jacob Over, both over 14 years of age. John Over served in the Revolutionary War from 1778-1783. In 1778 John Over appeared on the muster roll of Capt. Joseph Gears, Company of the 9th Battalion of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia commanded by Col. J. Huber. He was a private in the first class. Also serving were Martin Burcholter, John Flickinger, Peter Bricker, David Bricker, John Flickinger, Henry Borgholter, Peter Shoemaker, George Bargholter, George Kissinger, John Bricker, Daniel Solleberger, Henry Henshy, Christian Flickinger. In 1779 John Over appeared on the muster roll of Capt. Geahr, Company of the 9th Battalion of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia under the command of Col. John Huber. He was a private in the first class. Also serving were Martin Borkholter, Daniel Soleberger, Christian Flickinger, Henry Henshey, Henry Henshey, Jr., Joseph Flickinger, George Kissinger, John Bricker, Peter Shoemaker, Martin Kissinger. In 1783 John Over appeared on the muster roll of Capt. Joseph Gear, 4th Company of the 6th Battalion of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia. He was a private in the 2nd class. Also serving were Daniel Solleberger, Christian Flickinger, Fredrick Kissinger, Henry Henshey, John Flickinger, Peter Bricker, John Flickinger, David Bricker, George Kissinger, John Bricker, Henry Borgholter, Peter Shoemaker, George Bargholter. An account of the real estate sale of 270 acres in Peters Twp., Franklin Co., Pa. belonging to the late John Over, adjoining Melcher Brindle and William Montgomery. The following committee in charge of dividing the estate: James Campbell; George Clapsadler; William Campbell; Thomas Campbell; James Campbell; John Clapsaddle; John Bundle; Melcher Brindle; Joseph Dunlap; Archibald Bard; Thomas Wason; James Dunlap. Valued at 2,040 pounds. In exchange for the farm, the eldest son, Jacob Over agreed to pay his mother, Christina Over, 680 pounds annually the rest of her life. As well as paying his siblilings: Henry Over; Elizabeth Over married John Flickinger; Mary Over married Michael Swegart; Catharine Over married Peter Witter 226 pounds now, 151 pounds, 2 shillings, and 2 pence in one year, and 75 pounds, 11 shillings, and 1 pence at the time of their mother's death. On May 16, 1785 John and Christiana Ober of Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. granted to Christian Eby of Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. 172 acres of land in Cocalico Twp. bounded by Jacob Sneerer, Renner's land, and Peter Whitmore for 600 pounds. On December 7, 1784 John Over of Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. was appointed guardian of the estate of George Reddick, minor under the age of 14 years, son of Philip Reddick of Cocalico Twp., deceased. In the inventory account of Peter Bricker's estate by Christian Eby and Dietrich Caquelin of Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. a debt is due by John Ober of 7 pounds. A copy of the November 5, 1774 inventory of Peter Bricker was found in the Bricker Family File Folder in the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Historical Library. Another inventory this one of Christian Bricker revealed that John Ober signed his mark ÒHOÓ which was the same way John Ober signed the land deed found in Deed Book H, p. 246-274.
