La défense du nouvel établissement nécessitera la participation de tous ses colons mais particulièrement des soldats. Quatre ans après la fondation de la ville, Hébert épouse Adrienne Duvivier. Il est parmi les premiers à recevoir une terre aux abords de la nouvelle ville en 1648. Cette terre s'étend sur 2 arpents à l'est de la rue Saint-Pierre et commence au nord de la rue Saint-Paul. Décédé en 1653, sa veuve se remarie à Robert Lecavelier dit Deslauriers, lequel se chargera d'élever les enfants mineurs.
