Registre de L'Abbe Charles-François Bailly (Fr. Bailly), The Isle Madame Records - 5 October 1771 at Decoux Harbor of Isle Madame (D'Escousse) JOSEPH-MARIE JOSSE, born 15 August 1767 to Guillaume Josse and Cécile Préjeant (Godparents: Joseph Dugas and Anne Sampson)

From Ed Galvin email, 4/23/03

Joseph [Marie] Josse was listed in the 1811 census in D'Escousse as a
mariner. He was age 14 -60, his wife was 14 - 60, an unmarried male 14 - 60
[son Joseph age 16], and a male and five females under 14. According to a
list provided by Doug Marchand, the other son would have been Pierre. The
daughters would have been LaBonne, Judith, Marie, Catherine, and Madeleine.
Pierre however was much older - would have been 19 or so at the time and
would have been listed in the 1813 militia census separately. He therefore
must have been younger than Joseph

In 1813 Joseph [Marie] was listed in the Cape Breton militia roll as a member of the Seventh Military Division. His age was given as 47, born in Cape Breton, a fisherman, holding 80 acres of land by Crown Lease (five were cleared), four cattle and six sheep. With him was one woman, one son and five daughters.. His son Joseph, being age 18, was listed separately. Again, the children would have been Pierre, and the above named daughters. One of the daughters must have married during that time as Isabelle should have been born about 1811.

No listing appears for a Joseph Josse in the 1838 D'Escousse census.
